Description

This Reference Material (RM) is intended for use in developing and validating methods for measuring relative differences in carbon (C) isotope-number ratios, R(13C/12C), and hydrogen (H) isotope-number ratios, R(2H/1H). Even though the values for this RM are reference values and not certified, its use will improve the comparability of data from different laboratories. The equivalent name for this RM as used by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is NBS 22. A unit of NIST-RM 8539 consists of one ampoule containing approximately 1 mL of oil.

NIST | National Institute of Standards and Technology

NIST provides over 1300 Standard Reference Materials® as well as articles and practice guides describing the development, analysis and use of SRMs.

NIST Standard Reference Materials are used by analytical laboratories in industry, academia and government in order to facilitate commerce and trade and to advance research and development. The SRMs are produced by the engineering laboratory, the material measurement laboratory, and the physical measurement laboratory at NIST. They are available for chemical composition, physical properties, and engineering materials.
