Description

Nuclear receptor subfamily 1 group I member 2 (UniProt O75469, also known as Orphan nuclear receptor PAR1, Orphan nuclear receptor PXR, Pregnane X nuclear receptor, Steroid and xenobiotic receptor, SXR) is encoded by the NR1I2 (also known as BXR, PAR, PRR, PXR, SAR, SXR, ONR1) gene (Gene ID 8856) in human. Pregnane X receptor (PXR) is a nuclear receptor that displays similarity to PPAR and RXR. PXR is activated by a large number of endogenous and exogenous chemicals including steroids and antibiotics. One of the key roles of PXR is the induction of CYP3A4, a P450 enzyme involved in drug metabolism.
