Description

G-protein-signaling modulator 1 (UniProt Q9R080, also known as Activator of G-protein signaling 3) is encoded by the Gpsm1 (also known as Ags3) gene (Gene ID 246254) in rat species. AGS3/GPSM1 is an evolutionarily conserved protein with four G-protein regulatory (GPR) GoLoco motifs (a.a. 493-515, 546-568, 594-616, 628-650 of murine GPSM1) and functions as a guanine nucleotide dissociation inhibitor (GDI). GPSM1 increases heteromeric polycystin-1/polycystin-2 ion channel activity via Gbetagamma subunits. GPSM1 is involved in regulating mitotic spindle orientation, cell polarity, and adenylyl cyclase activity. GPSM1 plays a role in renal epithelial cell repair following renal injury and GPSM1 induction in polycystic kidney disease (PKD) and may be a critical modulator of the renal cystogenic process.
