Description

UHRF2 plays a critical role in cell cycle as it ubiquitinates cyclins and induces G1 arrest. UHRF2 also participates in epigenetic control of gene expression in many cells through binding and ubiquitinating DNA and histone binding proteins and targeting them for degradation. UHRF2 binds methylated CpG containing oligonucleotides as well and interacts directly with histone H3 as well as the trimethylated form of H3. UHRF2 is also recruited to areas of DNA damage and is important for DNA stability. UHRF2 is localized in the nucleus in heterochromatin. UHRF2 up regulated expression is associated with various cancers, however typically as mutated or lower copy number forms, which appear to has impaired anti-proliferation abilities.
