Involved in inflammatory and immune responses and promotes wound healing., Recombinant, mouse interleukin-1beta expressed in E. coli. Suppresses apoptosis in rat ovarian follicles. Involved in inflammatory and immune responses and promotes wound healing. Interleukin-1 is a protein produced by stimulated macrophages and many other cell types. The following biological activities are attributed to IL-1: activation of T cells resulting in the production of IL-2 and expression of IL-2 receptors, initiation of Acute Phase Response by induction of hepatic protein synthesis, increased proteolysis of muscle proteins, amino acid mobilization, and caloric and oxygen utilization, induction of bone resorption, stimulation of fibroblast proliferation, induction of slow-wave sleep, fever production, induction of prostaglandin and leukotriene production, stimulation of thymocyte proliferation, induction of B cell proliferation and maturation and increased immunoglobulin synthesis, induction of collagenase and other proteinases in synovial fibroblasts and articular chrondrocytes, suggesting a role in pathological states such as arthritis, activation of neutrophils. 1 µ,g is equivalent to 1.1 x 106 WHO units.
