Sample description: The reference material ERM®-ED105 consists of an yttrium stabilized zirconium oxide powder. The material is supplied in glass bottles containing 47 g each. Zirconium oxide is a chemically inert material with a wide spread of technicalapplications. ZrO2 adopts a monoclinic crystal structure at room temperature and transitions to tetragonal and cubic at higher temperatures. The volume expansion caused by the cubic to tetragonal to monoclinic transformation induces large stresses, and these stresses cause ZrO2 to crack upon cooling from high temperatures. When the zirconia is blended with some other oxides, the tetragonal and/or cubic phases are stabilized. One of the effective dopants is yttrium oxide (Y2O3). _________Zirconiumoxid ist ein chemisch inertes Material mit einem weiten Anwendungsbereich. ZrO2 liegt bei Raumtemperatur in einer monoklinen Kristallstruktur vor und wandelt sich bei h?heren Temperauren in eine tetragonale oder kubische Modifikation um. Die mit den Phasenumwandlungen verbundenen Volumen?nderungen führen zur Zerst?rung von aus ZrO2 geformten Gegenst?nden bei Abkühlung ausgehend von hohen Temperaturen. Durch Zudotieren verschiedener Oxide kann die tetragonale bzw. kubische Phase stabilisiert werden. Eines der effektivsten stabilisierenden Oxide ist Yttriumoxid (Y2O3).
