Description

Zinc finger protein 175 (UniProt: Q9Y473, also known as Zinc finger protein OTK18) is encoded by the ZNF175 gene (Gene ID: 7728) in human. ZNF175 is zinc finger protein that contains 13 C2H2 type zinc fingers and is shown to be ubiquitous in its expression. ZNF175 displays antiviral activity and it is produced during HIV-1 infection of mononuclear phagocytes in human and interferes with HIV-1 replication by suppressing Tat-induced viral LTR promoter activity. It down-regulates the expression of several chemokine receptors and plays a role in the interaction of viral and host cell factors leading to HIV-1 associated dementia and HIV-1 encephalitis. ZNF175 contains a Krueppel associated box (KBAB, aa 26-89) domain that is responsible for its repressive activity. Plasma levels of ZNF175 are reported to correlate with CD8 count and HIV status.
