Description

Homeobox protein CDX-2 (UniProt Q99626, also known as Caudal-type homeobox protein 2, Caudal type homeobox transcription factor 2, CDX-3) is encoded by the CDX2 (also known as CDX3, CDX2/AS) gene (Gene ID 1045) in human. CDX-2 is a transcription factor that plays an important role during embryonic development, where it determines intestinal identity in the presumptive gut endoderm. CDX-2 is also required for maintenance of intestinal identity in the intestinal epithelium throughout adulthood. Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) are reported to modulate CDX2 transcriptional activity and half-life via phosphorylation. Reduction of CDX2 expression facilitates tumor progression in murine models of colorectal cancer (CRC) and decreased CDX2 expression level in CRC correlates with poor prognosis in human.
