Description

Vacuolar protein sorting-associated protein 72 homolog (UniProt: Q15906, also known as Protein YL-1, Transcription factor-like 1) is encoded by the VPS72 (also known as TCFL1, YL1) gene (Gene ID: 6944) in human. YL-1 is a nuclear protein that may serve as a DNA-binding transcriptional regulator and may be involved in chromatin modification and remodeling. YL-1 is plays multiple roles in chromatin modification and remodeling in cells and it is shown to be a subunit of TRRAP/TIP60 HAT complex and of chromatin remodeling SCCAP-containing complex. It has a DNA binding region that includes amino acids 156 to 206. In addition, it has an aspartic/glutamic acid rich acidic region (aa 22-77) and a proline rich region (aa 333-354). Two isoforms of YL-1 have been described that are produced by alternative splicing. (Ref.: Cai, Y., et al. (2006). J. Biol. Chem. 280 (14), 13665-70).
