Description

Kinesin-like protein KIF3A (UniProt Q9Y496, also known as Kinesin family protein 3A, Microtubule plus end-directed kinesin motor 3A) is encoded by the KIF3A (also known as FLA10, KIF3, KLP-20) gene (Gene ID 11127) in human. Kinesin-2 is a heterotrimeric motor protein composed of two kinesin-related subunits, KIF3A and KIF3B, and an associated protein KAP3. The kinesin-2 motor KIF3A/B drives intraflagellar transport (IFT) of tubulins and other axonemal building blocks in cilia and flagella, pigment granules in melanosomes, and vesicles in neurons. Defects in these transport processes are linked to polycystic kidney disease and neurodegenerative diseases.
