Description
Hippocalcin-like protein 1 (UniProt: P37235, also known as Calcium-binding protein BDR-1, HLP2, Visinin-like protein 3, VILIP-3) is encoded by the HPCAL1 (also known a BDR1) gene (Gene ID: 3241) in human. HPCAL1 is a lipid-anchor membrane protein of the visinin-like subfamily of neural calcium sensor and is involved in the calcium-dependent regulation of rhodopsin phosphorylation. It is structurally related to Ca2+-myristoyl switch proteins that contain four EF-hand motifs and a covalently attached N-terminal myristoyl group. HPCAL1 is also expressed in Purkinje cells of the cerebellum and hippocampus where it is believed to regulate synaptic plasticity relevant for learning and memory. Clone 1E10 specifically detects denatured HPCAL1 protein that is endogenously expressed in several pancreatic cell lines. (Ref.: Chen, Y., et al. (2014).
