Description

Liprin-alpha-1 (UniProt: Q13136, also known as LAR-interacting protein 1, LIP-1, Protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type f polypeptide-interacting protein alpha-1, PTPRF-interacting protein alpha-1) is encoded by the PPFIA1 (also known as LIP1) gene (Gene ID: 8500) in human. Liprin-alpha-1 is a member of the LAR (leukocyte common antigen-related) protein tyrosine phosphatase-interacting protein (liprin) family. It is a cytoplasmic protein that regulates the disassembly of focal adhesions. It forms homodimers and heterodimers with Liprin-alpha and Liprin-beta. Liprins contain an N-terminal coiled-coil domain and a C-terminal liprin homology (LH) region comprised of three sterile alpha motif (SAM) domains. The N-terminal region acts as a binding region for several synaptic proteins. SAM domain are known to bind to both protein kinases and phosphatases. In mast cells, liprin-alpha-1 facilitates exocytosis and cell spreading.
