Description

SWI/SNF-related matrix-associated actin-dependent regulator of chromatin subfamily D member 2 (UniProt: Q92925, also known as 60 kDa BRG-1/Brm-associated factor subunit B, BRG1-associated factor 60B, BAF60B) is encoded by the SMARCD2 (also known as BAF60B, PRO2451) gene (Gene ID: 6603) in human. It is a member of the SWI/SNF family of proteins, whose members display helicase and ATPase activities and regulate transcription of certain genes by altering the chromatin structure around those genes. Three members of BAF60 family have been described and are designated as FAF60 A, B, and C. BAF60B is expressed in immune cells, muscle, and pancreas tissues. Two isoforms of BAF60B have been described that are produced by alternative splicing. The SWIB domain of BAF60B is localized in amino acids 307-382. BAF60B is reported to interact with multiple transcription factors and may bridge transcription factors with SWI/SNF complexes. At least 11 subunits of SWI/SNF complex have been discovered, including 2 enzymatic ATPase subunits (Brm and Brg1) and 10 Brg1/Brm associated factors (BAFs), which are named according to their molecular weights. BAF60B is shown to link chromatin opening to ATM activation by facilitating ATM recruitment to the open chromatin regions of a panel of hepatic gene loci. It is required for 3TF (transcription factors Foxa3, Hnf1 and Gata4) - induced activation of ATM and facilitates the recruitment of ATM to the SWI/ SNF complex. (Ref.: Ji, S., et al. (2017).
