Description
A high affinity biotin binding protein (Kd approximately 10-15) that is stable over wide pH and temperature ranges. Each molecule of streptavidin binds 4 molecules of biotin. Streptavidin lacks the carbohydrate side chains present on avidin and has an isoelectric point nearer to neutrality (pI of 5.5-6.5 versus 10 for avidin). Consequently, streptavidin frequently exhibits lower levels of non-specific binding than avidin. The extinction coefficient of a 1% solution at 280 nm is 32., A high-affinity biotin binding protein.
