A zwitterionic detergent with an aromatic core that is shown to stabilize and solubilize integral membrane proteins by breaking aggregates. Useful for protein analysis and characterization by two-dimensional (2-D) gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry techniques. Reported to be superior to CHAPS (Cat. In combination with thiourea and urea, also reported to improve the recovery of hydrophobic proteins from Arabidopsis thaliana.
