New and coming soon: Speira 2520-1 – Reference material based on AA 5182 (Al Mg4.5Mn0.4)

Speira is expanding their product range with a high-quality reference material based on the aluminum alloy AA 5182 (Al Mg4.5Mn0.4). This material is ideal for calibration and quality assurance in optical emission spectrometry (OES) and XRF.

AA 5182 is frequently used for automotive sheet metal, beverage can lids, and structural components—an authentic industrial material and therefore particularly suitable for use as a realistic reference.

In addition to the precisely certified composition of the major and trace elements, one detail stands out in particular: Sodium (Na) is certified at approximately 1 µg/g with an uncertainty acceptable for use in process control.

This is significant because trace sodium content in aluminum alloys can impact material properties, yet detection at these levels is a major analytical challenge. Realistic, reliable reference standards are essential.

A certified value in the µg/g range enables high-precision calibration and allows for control within the limit of quantification.
