In the liver, the Alanine and a-ketoglutarate transform to Pyruvate and Glutamate by the actions of Alanine aminotransferase (AST).. ,The Pyruvate transforms to glucose by the Cori cycle (Gluconeogenesis) and returns to the muscle from the blood stream.
