A nitroxyl anion (NO-) donor that spontaneously, in the presence of oxygen and Cu2+ and Fe3+, dissociates in a pH-dependent, first-order process to liberate 0.54 moles of NO per mole of the parent compound. Half-life (t½,) of NO release = 2.3 min. (in 100 mM phosphate buffer, pH 7.4 at 37C). Induces relaxation of norepinephrine-constricted rabbit aorta (EC50 = 590 nM).
