Application Note: 17beta-Spiro[5-androsten-17,2'-oxiran]-3beta-ol is an intermediate in the synthesis of 7beta-Acetylthio-17alpha-ethoxymethy Testosterone which is an impurity of Spironolactone (S683000), which is a synthetic 17-lactone steroid which is a renal competitive aldosterone antagonist in a class of pharmaceuticals called potassium-sparing diuretics, used primarily to treat ascites in patients with liver disease, low-renin hypertension, hypokalemia, and Conns syndrome.
