Dorsomorphin selectively inhibits the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) type I receptors ALK2, ALK3 and ALK6 and thus blocks BMP-mediated SMAD1/5/8 phosphorylation, target gene transcription and osteogenic differentiation.
