Plate Count Agar (also called Tryptone Glucose Yeast Agar or Casein-Peptone Dextrose Yeast Agar) is a granulated culture medium. It does not contain any inhibitors or indicators, and it is relatively rich in its nutrients. The enzymatic digest of casein (tryptone) with a high level of free amino acids is a nitrogen source. Yeast extract primarily supplies the B-complex vitamins. Glucose is an energy source for the growth of bacteria, while agar is the solidifying agent.
