The seven samples of non-asbestos fibres included in this set have been selected as those that are most likely to be encountered by analysts examining asbestos samples, which may be confused for asbestos. They are typical examples and are mounted in fixed melt mount resins of refractive index (RI) values similar to those that would be selected for the asbestos types they may be incorrectly identified as. In some of the slides, dispersion may be observed if the RI's are close to those of the fibres themselves or the asbestos fibres that they may be misidentified as.
