Description

Standard Reference Material NIST-2460a is a bullet signature standard comprising bullet profile signatures of six Land Engraved Areas (LEAs) from fired bullets. It is replicated from the original SRM 2460 Standard Bullet. NIST-2460a
is intended primarily for use as a check standard for forensic laboratories to help verify that the computerized optical equipment for bullet imaging and profiling is operating properly to measure bullet topography signatures. A unit of
NIST-2460a consists of a nickel and gold-coated standard bullet replica that is mounted on a plastic holder. Certified for Normalized Cross-Correlation Function Maximum CCFmax and Signature Difference Ds.

National Institute of Standards and Technology

NIST provides over 1300 Standard Reference Materials® as well as articles and practice guides describing the development, analysis and use of SRMs.

NIST Standard Reference Materials are used by analytical laboratories in industry, academia and government in order to facilitate commerce and trade and to advance research and development. The SRMs are produced by the engineering laboratory, the material measurement laboratory, and the physical measurement laboratory at NIST. They are available for chemical composition, physical properties, and engineering materials.
